connection and severance

It’s been a week of thinking about severance, or at least the act of indefinite see you laters. Of noticing the wounds that form when a deep bond is coupled with abrupt departure and an unknowingness of reunion.

I spent 6 weeks in a forest with inspired and talented artists. Wholly subsumed with a sense of belonging- to the community, to the ancient wisdom of trees, stone, and sky. Devouring the beauty and power of connection. Struck with disbelief at the radiance of present passing moments. Feeling something like a growth of self fed from the lushness and vitality of these coalescing elements.

And finally, leaving it all behind. Like this pile of rocks. Collected with care, turned into sculpture, caressed by adoring hands, exchanged within tides and sets of eyes. Then severed from their adorers. And longingly placed in a site of potential but uncertain return.

Perhaps its not about moving on, but moving around until one retraces the most beckoning of footsteps.
